History of JATO
【1996】
JATO Establishment Meeting
On June 13, 1996, JATO launch meeting was held at the Peabody Hotel near the convention venue of the 47th NATA annual meeting in Orlando, Florida. The 48 of Japanese NATA members and observers attended at the meeting to approve the establishment of JATO. Japan Athletic Trainers' Organization was established 10 years after the private meeting in which its creation was discussed about at the NATA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, back in 1986.
【1997】
The 2nd JATO Annual Meeting and Seminar
On Sunday, April 20, 1997, JATO Seminar and the 2nd annual general meeting took place at Nippon Seinenkan in Tokyo. Prior to the general meeting, Dr. Toru Fukubayashi, professor of University of Tokyo, made a presentation about “Knee Ligament Injuries”and Hiroyuki Sato of Sato Kyo Shouten, the import sales distributor for the US Langer products, gave a lecture about "Insoles”.
After the seminar, the annual general meeting was held.
JATO Briefing Session and Reception in Salt Lake City
On June 19, JATO briefing session and reception were held in Salt Lake City where the 48th NATA Annual Meeting took place. The JATO briefing session held from 5pm to 6 pm was mainly targeted to student athletic trainers in the United States, and each JATO board members including Vice chairYoshizumi Iwasaki, Nobuhito Koseki, Chiaki Nakamura, and Kei Aso answered the questions from the student athletic trainers. Following the session, JATO reception was held at the same
venue with more than 70 participants. As previous year, Kent Falb, the NATA president, Eve Becker Doyle, the NATA CEO, several other NATA board member, Gene Bayliss,the NATA International Committee Chair, and some other members from NATA attended.
President Falb and CEO Doyle gave JATO speeches about closer relationships between NATA andJATO, globalization of NATA, and so on.
Also, Jack Weakly of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Product Inc. which sponsored the reception,gave an address at the reception. JATO truly appreciated Johnson & Johnson for their support.
In addition, Hiromi Taniguchi, a former Olympic Marathon runner, gave a speech as a special guest.
【1998】
The 1st JATO Athletic Training Symposium
On March 29th and 30th, 1998, the 1st JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Solid Square Hall, near JR Kawasaki Station. Approximately 200 people including JATO members attended sessions and showed high interest in athletic training in Japan. On the evening of the 29th, the welcome reception was held for Sue Hillman and Dr. Gary Delforge who came to Japan as guest speakers.

The 2nd JATO Athletic Training Symposium
On March 27th and 28th, 1999, the 2nd Athletic Training Symposium took place at
Solid Square Hall in Kawasaki, Kanagawa. Approximately 130 people attended, including
JATO members. On the evening of 27th, the welcome reception was held for Maggie Lacambra and Dr. Mike Ferrara and who came to Japan as guest speakers.

JATO Open House and International Breakfast in Kansas City
JATO hosted an open house both on June 17th and 18th in Kansas City where
the 50th NATA Annual Meeting took place. Before the NATA annual meeting, the 2nd World Congress was held for 2 days in town. Due to this special event, the International Reception which JATO usually hosts at the convention was organized by NATA this year. JATO offered the breakfast social instead for providing a place of interaction between members and student trainers. A total of 70 people
participated in 2 days at Open House.
Also, on the morning of June 18, at International Breakfast sponsored by JATO, about 40 people including NATA officials and World Congress members participated.
【2000】
The 3rd JATO Athletic Training Symposium and Annual General Meeting
The 3rd JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Solid Square Hall in Kawasaki on May 20th and 21st, 2000. JATO invited Dr. Craig Deneger of Pennsylvania State University and Dr. Richard Ray of Hope College as lecturers. On the first day of the symposium, “Pain in Sports” was discussed about.
On the second day, the key topic was “Foot Injuries in Sports”. Also, as a special lecture commemorating the 5th anniversary of JATO establishment, Dr. Hiroyuki Nakajima, Professor at Nippon Sports College Graduate School, gave a lecture on "Current status and future of sports medicine in Japan" on the first day.
JATO Baseball Athletic Training Seminar
On December 3rd, 2000, JATO Baseball Athletic Training Seminar was held
at Waseda University International Conference Center. Greg Latta of the Chicago White Sox minor league head athletic trainer, Trung Cao of the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Koichi Sato, Arizona State University Assistant Athletic Trainer were invited. They talked about "Team Effort for Sports Injury Prevention and Major Leaguer Training" at the seminar.

The 4th JATO Athletic Training Symposium and Annual General Meeting
The 4th JATO Athletic Training Symposium and Annual General Meeting took place at the CSK Information Education Center on March 24th and 25th, 2001. At this symposium, "Low Back Pain in Athletes" was the key topic. Julie King from University of Pittsburgh was invited as a guest speaker. Also, Dr. Hideyuki Miki, the Director of Department of Sports Medicine at Yokohama City Sports Medical Science Center gave the presentation about "Case Study of Low Back Acute and Chronic Injuries in Sports". Dr. Nakai Kunii, DC of Sessamoide Chiropractic
Office, talked about "Chiropractic Approach to Low Back Pain".
The 2nd JATO Baseball Athletic Training Seminar
On December 9th, 2001, Baseball Athletic Training Seminar was held with the same lecturers from the previous year at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center. The seminar was popular last time and this year it was focused on "Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Program in Baseball".
Greg Latta, Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League Head Athletic Trainer, talked about injury prevention and rehabilitation in upper extremity and Trung Kao of Chicago White Sox Minor League Strength & Conditioning Coach discussed strengthening and conditioning for baseball players.
Also, Koichi Sato, Arizona State University Assistant Athletic Trainer, gave a lecture on injury prevention and rehabilitation of the lower extremity and core.
In addition, JATO Reception was held during the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia in Los Angeles, California in July 2001.
【2002】
From January to February in 2002, JATO held board member election for the term 2002-2004.
JATO Athletic Training Seminar
On Sunday of March 17th, 2002, JATO Athletic Training Seminar took place at STEP at Chuo College of Technology. In this seminar, Dr. Shigehito Kuroda of Matsudo Orthopedic Clinic gave a lecture about "Instability with Acute and Chronic Shoulder Injuries" and Shinichi Chiba, Physical Therapist at Fujigaoka Rehabilitation Hospital of Showa University, talked about“Shoulder Rehabilitation”.
In June 2002, JATO Breakfast and JATO Reception were held during the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia in Dallas, Texas.
In July 2002, TheraBand Seminar was held at STEP at Chuo College of Technology.
【2003】
The 5th JATO Athletic Training Symposium
The 5th JATO Athletic Training Symposium and the Annual General Meeting took place at Osaka City Central Gymnasium on March 18 and 19, 2003. It was the first JATO event held in western Japan. At this symposium, Todd Ellen Becker, physical therapist of Physio Therapy Associates Scottsdale Sports Clinic in Arizona, Dr. Yoshida Minoru of Osaka Kosei Pension Hospital and Kenichi Watabe of Physio Therapy Associates Scottsdale were invited as lecturers.
On the second day Dr. Shinya Nakazato, Director of Sports Orthopedic at Medical Corporation Soukai Kita Hospital, Munenori Nishioka from Professional Trainers' Team Co., Ltd., Chiaki Nakamura (currently at Waseda University) of Tryworks talked about “the Role of Athletic Trainers and its market" at panel discussion.
In June 2003, JATO reception was held during the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia in St. Louis, Missouri.
【2004】
JATO Spring Seminar and Annual Meeting
JATO Spring Seminar and Annual Meeting held at Waseda University on March 20th and 21st, 2004.
At this seminar, Dr. Mike Ferrara, a professor and the Director of NovaCare Athletic Training Research and Educational Laboratory at the University of Georgia, discussed about the concussion and its return-to-play protocol. Also, Dr. Yuki Izumi, podiatrist at the University of Texas San Antonio California gave a lecture on functional dissection and biomechanics of the feet.
In June 2004, JATO reception was held during the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia in Baltimore, Maryland.
【2005】
The 6th JATO Athletic Training Symposium
The 6th JATO Athletic Training Symposium and the Annual General Meeting took place at Waseda University on March 19th and 20th, 2005. The key topic of the symposium was “the Mind of Athletes". Psychological pressure that athletes receive during pre-season.
Dr. Francis Flint of York University in Canada presented "Pre-Seasonal Preparation of Mind and Body" and "Psychology of Injured Athletes” to talk about post-injury psychological change and coping.
Also, the professor Koji Takenaka of Waseda University discussed about "To promote athletes' health behavior change". Professor Sunao Uchida of Waseda University presented "Depression and Over Training Syndrome" from a psychiatric point of view. A topic on sports psychology, "Mental Training For Athletic Trainers" by Yoichi Kozuma, assistant professor of Tokai University, provided informative sessions for the athletic trainer.
From January to February in 2005, board of directors’ election was held for the term of 2005-2007.
【2006】
The 7th JATO Athletic Training Symposium
The 7th JATO Athletic Training Symposium entitled Growth of Athletic Training and New Challenges of ATCs in Japan" took place on March 18th and 19th, 2006. In commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of JATO's foundation, Don Lowe from Syracuse University and ten other lecturers from all over the country were invited to make presentations. On the first day of the symposium, Mr. Lowe talked about "The Role in Sports Medicine Team". Next, Yoshizumi Iwasaki, the head athletic trainer of NEC Red Rockets and a former student of Syracuse University’s, talked about sports medicine team building in Japan. Then Tadayoshi Takahashi of Waseda Jitsugyo presented “Athletic Trainer in High School Setting” . Mr. Takahashi talked about how he got the job opportunity, daily duties in high
school setting, and future possibilities.
On the second day, the key topic was "Athletic Trainer; Past, Present, and Future".
From young professionals to veterans, several lecturers those who were engaged either in traditional setting or new ones. In the morning, the 10th anniversary key note speech entitled "The History of JATO and the Future of AT in Japan" was presented by Jiro Shikakura. He talked about the history of athletic training, the role of ATCs in Japan and the launch of JATO. After that, Mr. Lowe gave a lecture on "Transition of Athletic Trainer as a Profession". In the afternoon, the topic was
"Changes and Attempts in AT Education". Shinsuke Higashi of Ritsumeikan University, Saori Yoshida of Tokai University, and Masami Hamamura and Kota Watanabe of Fukuoka Resort & Sports College gave lectures and talked about their circumstances for each institution.
In the second part of the afternoon, under the theme of "ATC's New Trial", Dr. Takeshi Suzuki, the CEO of R-body project Co., Ltd., Nami Honda of Little Gym and Kunihiko Kishi of Yamanashi Gakuin University made presentations about new employment setting for ATCs. Lastly, the panel discussion was held by all lecturers. A variety of topics were discussed. After each lecturer talked
about the prospects in 10 years, the symposium has closed.

The 8th JATO Athletic Training Symposium
The 8th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Tokyo Big Sight on March 17th and 18th, 2007. Benny Vaughn who was an experienced athletic trainer and massage therapist for many years and Koichi Sato from Athletes' Performance (currently EXOS) were invited as lecturers.
The symposium entitled "Manual Therapy and Body Work in Athletic Training".
【2008】
The 9th JATO Athletic Training Symposium
The 9th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Tokyo Big Sight on March 15 and 16, 2008.
Kelly Mullenix of Duke University Athletic Rehabilitation Director and Koichi Sato from Athletes’ Performance (currently EXOS) were invited as guest speakers. The symposium entitled "Recovery of Motor Function Focused on Movement: Theory and Practice". Mr. Mullenix gave a lecture on Turf-Toe with a new approach called Total Motion Release.
Also, Mr. Sato talked about mutual relations between movement, function, disability and efficiency.
As a special lecture, Chika Hirai, Japan Anti-Doping Organization Testing Manager made presentation entitled "World Anti-Doping Movement and Impact on Japan's Athletics".
【2009】
The 10th JATO Athletic Training Symposium
The 10th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Tokyo Big Sight on March 7th and 8th, 2009. Yen McLeod, a physician’s assistant, and Tamera McLeod, associate professor at AT Still University were invited. Yen McLeod gave lectures on the pathology of myofascial trigger point and the approach. Tamera McLeod gave a lecture on "Concussion Evaluation and Management in
Sports" in detail. In addition, Hisanori Tada, full-time lecturer at Teikyo Heisei University, talked about smoking cessation program at Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, a professional baseball team. His presentation entitled "Role of Athletic Trainer; Sports and Smoking Cessation"
In addition, Masayo Oishi who supported National Softball Team at the Beijing Olympic Games talked
about the path to the gold medal and also about the warming up and cooling down.
The JATO reception at the NATA Annual
Meeting was canceled considering the influence of the swine flu.

The 11th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2010
The 11th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Tokyo Big Sight March 6th and 7th, 2010.
Mr. John Norwig of the Head Athletic Trainer from NFL Pittsburgh Steelers and Ms. Ariko Iso of the Assistant Athletic Trainer were invited. Mr. Norwig talked about "Concussion Management of the Pittsburgh Steelers: From Injury to return to play" and "Injury CaseStudies during the National Football League Season," and Ms Iso talked about "Understanding MRSA in Athletic Field, Setting up Protocol for Evaluation, Treatment, and Disinfectant" and "Health Care System of Pittsburgh Steelers".
In addition, Mr. Kenichi Watabe talked about "Function Evaluation and Reconditioning of Throwing Shoulder", Mr. Kazuhiko Tomooka talked about "Systematic Approach to Construct an Efficient Movement Pattern", Mr. Yoshizumi Iwasaki talked about "Communication Skill". Also, group sessions of "On-Field problems: Contact Sports" lead by Mr. Shinsuke Higashi and " On-Field problems: Non-Contact Sports" lead by Yoshihisa Iwasaki was held on the last day of Symposium.

The 12th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2011
The 12th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Ritsumeikan University Biwako Kusatsu Campus on March 5th and 6th in 2011.
At the beginning of the Conference, the 6th Ritsumeikan Athletic Study Group was held, and Ms. Tomomi Oku a nutritionist at Ritsumeikan Cooperative Union, talked about "Nutritional Support for Athletes".
On the first day, "Measurement of Human Muscle Tendon Complex Shape by Utilizing MR Device" by Mr. Toshiyuki Kurihara of Ritsumeikan University Sports Health Science Division, "Development of Biosensor and Application to Sports/ Health Field" by Mr. Narihiro Shiozawa, and "Combining Strength Training and Nutrition Intake for Muscle Hypertrophy" by Mr Satoshi Fujita were given.
On the second day, Mr. Yohei Shimokawachi of Osaka Physical Education University talked "Update about Non-Contact Type ACL Injury Mechanism and those Suggestions for Prevention Training for ACL Injuries". In the afternoon workshop, the theory and practical workshop of Mr. Takashi Kuwabara's "pilates in the Sports Medicine and Performance Enhancement -Pilates is not just a tool for the core-" and Mr. Hiroki Sato's "Simple Manipulation to the Pelvis / Spine" was conducted.

The 13th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2012
The 13th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Fukuoka University on March 3rd and 4th 2012.
On the first day, Mr. Naoto Muramatsu of the Spanish Football Association senior coach talked about "Current Paradigm Shift in Spanish Football”, Mr. Yoshito Kono of the doctor of Fukuoka University Hospital talked about "Physical Conditionint Based on the M-Test” and “M-Test in Practice”, Mr. Junji Shinohara of Kyusyu Kyoritsu University School of Sports talked about “The Mechanism of Chronic Ankle Instability - How to Reduce the Risk of Repetitive Ankle Sprains-“, and Mr. Kenji Sasaki “Additional Possibilities for Athletic Training Services – Report after 3.11, and Advancement of Regional Sports-“.
On the second day, “Reconditioning Techniques for the Throwing Shulder” by Mr. Kenichi Watanabe, the medical director of Fukuoka Softbank Hawks Medical, “Arthroscopic Management for Athletic Hip Pain and Rehabilitation” and “Clinical Evaluation for Athletic Hip Painand Rehabilitation” by Mr. Soshi Uchida of the Doctor of Wakamatsu Hospital of the University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Sports Safety Program in Japan -Current Safety Management in Amateur Sports and the Future Role of Athletic Trainers in Japan-” by Mr. Yutaka Saho of the NPO Sports Safety Japan” and "Practical Aspect of Noncontact Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Prevention Training” by Dr. Yohei Shimochiuchi of Osaka Physical Education University were conducted.
JATO Reception
In June 2012, JATO Reception tool place during the 63rd Annual Meeting of NATA and Clinical Symposium in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. More than 100 ATCs and CATs, including the NATA president Jim Thornton, the NATA international group's Alison Lane, and the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and WFATT participated in this reception. Also, Mr. Shinji Tsumura of West Virginia University was introduced as the 6th JATO student member scholarship winner since its establishment.
The 1st JATO Seminar
The 1st JATO Seminar took place on Saturday, September 1, 2012. The first part is a lecture on
"Theory: Functional Training Theory" and "Actual: Trunk Functional Training" from
Mr. Takeshi Suzuki, the CEO of R-body project Co., Ltd. In the second part,
Mr. Kazuhiko Tomooka of the General Manager and the performance director of Dorm Athlete House
gave a lecture and practical of "Movement Preparation Program Based on Screening".

The 14th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2013
The 14th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Tokyo Big Sight March 9th and 10th, 2013.
In the morning of the first day, starting with "Physical Conditioning for Competing in the World
Tournament" by Toichi Hirose of the Waseda University Department of Sports Science and
the Physical Coach of Japan Woman Football National team, "Exertional Rhabdomyolysis:
Current Questions and Conroversies" by Dr. Francis G. O'Connor of the Director of CHAMP,
a specialized agency supporting the US Department of Defense, and "Movement Pattern Progressions
- Using Principles from the Neurodevelopmental Sequence to Address Athletic Injury -
" by Ms. Karen Rakowski, a physiotherapist in the United States, were presented.
In the afternoon of the first day, following Dr. O'Connor's "Running Evaluation to Include
Gait Analysis: Practical Considerations" and "Clinical Evaluation of the Injured Runner",
"Movement Pattern Progressions to Address Athletic Injury" by Ms. Rakowski was introduced.
In the morning of the second day, Ms. Rakowski talked about "SFMA: A Standard Operating
Procedure for Assessing Movement Quality" Quality of Operation" and Dr. O'Connor talked about
"Exertional Heat Illness: Practical Considerations for the Medical Provider".
In the afternoon, "practical lecture of Functional Training for Trunk" by Mr. Takeshi Suzuki,
the CEO of R-body project Co., Ltd, and "Strength Training for Volleyball Player"
by Mr. Yosuke Kotani, the Vital Strength S&C Coach were conducted. “
JATO Student Seminar & Reception
In June 2013, JATO Student Seminar & Reception was held during the 64th NATA Annual Meeting and the Clinical Symposium in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Student Seminar was proceeded by Mr. Yutaka Saho, ex-president of JATO, and Mr. Koichi Sato, JATO director.
In addition, at the JATO reception after student seminar, the International Athletic Training Service Award was awarded to Mr. Eve Becker Doyle, former NATA CEO, who supported JATO for many years.

The 15th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2014
The 15th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Tokyo Big Sight on March 15 and 16, 2014.
On the first day, Mr. Brandon S Hetzler from Mercy Sports Medicine gave a lecture and practical about "The Restoration of Human Movement - Beyond Functional", and a lecture and hands-on seminar of "Sport Safety: What can you do to protect your athletes?" by Dr. Michael S Ferrara of the University of New Hampshire Health and Human Service, and "Connection to the Body Through Fascial System" by Mr. Takashi Moribe of the president of Kukuna Body proceeded.
On the second day, the lecture and practical courses of "Biomechanics of Golf:
Understanding of the golf swing and golf club" by Dr. Isao Okuda, the Professor of Human Sociology, Tokyo International University, "The Future of Global Education and Credentialing in Athletic Training" and "Developing a Medical Plan for the 2020 Olympic Games" by Dr. Ferrara, and "Intro to Kettlebells" by Mr. Hetzler 's practice were introduced.
JATO Student Seminar & Reception
In June 2014, JATO Student Seminar & Reception took place during the 65th annual general meeting of NATA and the clinical symposium in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Approximately 90 people participated.
【2015】
The 16th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2015
The 16th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place at Ryukoku University Fukakusa Campus on February 28 and March 1, 2015. A physiotherapist Ms. Sue Falsone who has an experience of the female first MLB head athletic trainer, Dr. Ken Nakata, the Doctor of Vice Center of Osaka University Hospital International Medical Center, and Ms. Anna Hartman who had worked at EXOS (Former Athletes' Performance) and founded Movement REV in Phoenix Arizona were invited.
On the first day, "Prevention and Performance Improvement Returning from Sports Injuries and Disabilities: System Construction of HCP Japan" by Dr. Nakata,
"Thoracic Spine: The Missing Link to Your Core Stability Program" by Ms. Sue Falsone, "The Breadth of Using Breath: Pilates Founding Principal and its Practical Application in Rehabilitation" and "Finding, Freeing, and Using Breath To Facilitate Movement" by Ms. Anna Hartmann are presented.
In addition, Mr. Junta Iguchi talked about "A study on the performance ability and trauma occurrence situation of Japanese university American football players" and Ms. Saori Yoshida talked about "Research report and fact on concussion".
On day 2, practical lecture of "Considerations for A Return To Throwing Program. For Your Baseball Players" by Ms. Sue Falsone and "Fascial Fitness In Contemporary Pilates: How The Science Supports A Holistic Treatment Philosophy" by Ms. Anna Hartman were introduced through the Japanese interpreter.
In the afternoon, Mr. Yoshizumi Iwasaki, the president of the Japan Core and Conditioning Association, talked about " Theory and Practice of Core Conditioning", Mr. Shunichi Suzuki, the director of Kawaguchi Industrial General Hospital Rehabilitation Center and Physical Therapist, talked about "Knee Joint Injury and Preventive Training".

The 17th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2016
The 17th JATO Athletic Training Symposium took place on Waseda University Higashifushimi Campus on February 27th and 28th, 2016.
JATO Student Seminar & Reception
In June 2016, JATO Student Seminar & Reception took place during the 67th NATA Annual Meeting and the Clinical Symposium in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Approximately 25 people participated in Student Seminar, Mr. Kei Aso (Senshu University, American Football Division) talked about "Entrepreneurship (Company Establishment) Established in Japan and Keeping in Mind as an ATC", and Ms. Ariko Iso Oregon State University Head Football Athletic Trainer) lectured on "Preparation
for American Job Hunting Activities as a Foreigner vs. Reality".
Approximately 70 people participated in the JATO Reception after the seminar. Mr. Scott Sailor, President of NATA, and Mr. Larry Leverenz, President of WFATT, joined and gave a greetings message.
In addition, Ms. Megumi Takahashi selected as a JATO scholarship recipient
in 2015 - 2016 was introduced.
The 2nd JATO Evidence-Based Practice Seminar
On July 3, 2016, the 2nd JATO Evidence-Based Practice Seminar took place at the CLIMB Factory Seminar Room. "Evidence-Based Medicine: Heat Stroke and Sports-Related Sudden Death" by Ms. Yuri Hosokawa of Korey Stringer Institute was conducted, and participants were given EBP 2.5 credits.
This seminar was held as a collaboration seminar with other organizations that will be the first attempt at JATO, and the event of the Japan Association of Training Instructors (JATI) was also held continuously. The number of participants also exceeded the initial capacity by 30 people, and it ended in great success.
The 3rd JATO Evidence-Based Practice Seminar
The 3rd JATO Evidence Based Practice seminar took place at Ritsumeikan University on October 29, 2016. In this seminar, Dr. Masafumi Terada of the Ritsumeikan University Sports Health Science Division talked about "Fusion of Modern Models in Chronic Ankle Instability -Approach Based on Scientific Evidence-” and Dr. Junji Shinohara of Kyushu Kyoritsu University Sports Faculty talked about "What is the athletic training practice of based on scientific evidence?”

2017 JATO EBP Seminar NO. 1 held
2017 JATO EBP Seminar No. 1 was held on February 11, 2017, at Nihon University Sangenchaya Campus. Dr. Masafumi Terada (Ritsumeikan University, Faculty of Sport and Health Science) gave a lecture on "Rehabilitation protocol of musculoskeletal injury applying neuroplasticity: Improvement of neuro-physical impairment of mind and body function and restriction of life activities."
JATO 20th Anniversary Event & Reception
JATO's 20th-anniversary event and reception were held on February 11, 2017, at Nihon University Sangechaya Campus. At the keynote speech and talk show, we invited Mr. Kosuke Kitajima (Coca-Cola / Perform Better Japan representative) and Ms. Kaori Icho (ALSOK). They gave a talk on what Japanese athletes need to fight in the world, focusing on how to support sports medicine and science, and hope for the development of Japanese sports culture for 2020 and later.

The 18th JATO Athletic Training Symposium was held on February 12, 2017, at Nihon University Sangenchaya Campus. This year, we invited industry-leading instructors to share the latest knowledge and experience.
JATO Student Seminar & Reception
In June 2017, JATO Student Seminar & Reception was held during the 68th NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in Houston, Texas, USA. The Student Seminar was attended by about 20 students and people who have already worked as an intern. This time, the new chairman, Mr. Daisuke Uematsu, shared the vision of JATO's establishment history, JATO mission, purpose, and until 2019. He also gave some qualifications and job areas related to the working as Athletic Trainer in Japan.
Approximately 70 people, including Japanese ATC and NATA International members, participated in the continued JATO Reception, interacts and exchanging ideas. Following the greetings by JATO's new chairman Mr. Daisuke Uematsu, he thanked NATA Chairman Mr. Scott Sailor, NATA Managing Director Mr. David Saddlerl, and WFATT Chairman Dr. Larry Leverenz. Ms. Ayami Yoshihara, a winner of the 2016-2017 Scholarship, was introduced to other members.
JATO Athletic Training Seminar 2017 held
On September 23, 2017, JATO Athletic Training Seminar 2017 was held at Waseda University Higashi-Fushimi Campus. The topics were "Study of Judo players' head and neck injuries: Evidence-based approach" by Mr. Sentaro Koshida, and "Development of a training program for linking injury prevention and performance improvement-Practical skill" by Mr. Daisuke Yamaguchi.
The 2nd JATO x JATI Collaboration Seminar
The 2nd JATO x JATI collaboration seminar was held on October 22, 2017, at Osaka High Technology College. The topics were "Introduction Lecture" by Mr. Takeshi Suzuki, "Lapse Mechanics for Preventing Non-Contact ACL Damage" by Yohei Shimokawachi, and "Aim for Scientific Coaching" by Dr. Hiroyuki Aburatani. The round table was also chaired by Mr. Takeshi Suzuki, and the performers by Dr. Yohei Shimokouchi and Dr. Hiroyuki Aburatani.

19th JATO Athletic Training Symposium 2018
The 19th JATO Athletic Training Symposium was held on February 17-18, 2018 at Ritsumeikan University Osaka Ibaraki Campus (OIC).
We also held a JATO Sports Safety Seminar 2018 at the same venue to talk about the current situation in Japan to sports safety professionals and provide practical solutions.
JATO Student Seminar & Reception
In June 2017, JATO Student Seminar & Reception was held during the 69th NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. About 100 attendees gathered at the Student Seminar, and Mr. Akira Kondo (Pima Community College) gave a lecture on “The current status of foreign ATC seen from the employer side in the United States, the barriers of visas,” followed by Mr. Daisuke Uematsu (JATO President) who talked about "The activities of JATO and ATC in Japan".
About 100 people participated in the continued JATO Reception, including former NATA President Mr. Scott Sailor, current NATA President Mr. Tory Lindley, WFATT President Dr. Glen Bergeron, and the President of NATA International Committee Dr. Brian Zeller. Dr. Brian Zeller gave a congratulatory message to Mr. Yoshizumi Iwasaki, who won the International Service Award. In response, Mr. Iwasaki also gave a short speech. Finally, the Jiro Shikakura Scholarship and the Shinsuke Higashi Scholarship winners were reported.
JATO incorporated
At the NIC International College in Japan Tokyo School on July 7th, 2018, the proposal was approved at both the General Assembly Japan Athletic Trainers Organization establishment general meeting and the Japan Athletic Trainers Organization dissolution general meeting. The corporate registration procedure was completed on August 3rd, 2018. In the future, the Japan Athletic Trainers Organization will work as a general incorporated association.
WFATT decision to hold
World Federation of Athletic Training & Therapy (WFATT), Congress and General Assembly, will be held in Japan.

[What is WFATT? ]
The National Athletic Trainers' Association is an international organization of athletic trainers (ATs) that was established to work in various countries to conduct AT activities worldwide. JATO will be a founding member with 37 organizations and institutions of the world joining as members. At a general meeting in 2019, a meeting held once every two years, JATO was selected as the host country.

On September 2, 2018, JATO Athletic Training Seminar 2018 was held in the CLIMB Factory Seminar Room. "Integration of Motion and Sense: Basics" by Mr. Takuto Kondo and "Application of Running Pattern to Diagnosis and Various Training" by Mr. Satoshi Tanigawa were the topics discussed at this seminar.
The 3rd JATO xJATI Collaboration Seminar
The 3rd JATO xJATI collaboration seminar was held on October 21st, 2018 at Teikyo Science University Senju Campus. The topics of this seminar were "Performance improvement and injury prevention in 7-girl women's rugby" by Mr. Keitaro Abe and "Personal support for top athletes-Construction of injury prevention and performance for Pyeongchang Olympics-" by Mr. Kohei Makino. After the seminar, the round table was held by Mr. Hiroshi Hisamura (JATI director), Mr. Keitaro Abe, Mr. Kohei Makino, and Mr. Daisuke Uematsu (JATO President).
